Causes and Effects of Global Warming

The average temperature on Earth has been steadily climbing since the 1950s and has recently begun to be a serious problem. As the temperature continues to rise, more and more negative effects are starting to appear. There are both natural and human causes that influence global warming. Also, there are some solutions to this increasing problem. Humans can take steps to stop, or at least slow down, global warming.

Natural Causes

The climate on our planet has been changing for millennia, as the Earth moves closer to the Sun. There is nothing we can do to prevent this from happening, unfortunately. However, there are also other natural factors that we can control.

Greenhouse gases are one of the main culprits of climate change. These gases are able to trap the heat and prevent it from escaping the atmosphere. In other words, they keep the heat around the globe, increasing average temperatures everywhere. Carbon dioxide is the most well-known greenhouse gas, but methane is 20 times more potent at capturing and storing heat.

Human Causes

It has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that humans influence global warming more than any natural cause. Our industrial production, fossil fuels, cattle, mining activities, and deforestation are all increasing global warming.

The industrial revolution has dramatically increased the amount of damage the human species is doing to Earth. Most of our industry releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, aggravating global warming.

Cattle and landfills release huge quantities of methane, which is 20 times more potent at capturing heat than carbon monoxide.

Another problem is that our motor vehicles are also releasing huge amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere.

The Effects of Global Warming

Climate changes affect the Earth in a dangerous way. Polar icecaps have already begun melting a lot faster. Waters are becoming warmer, endangering marine flora and fauna. Sea levels are also on the rise.

Climate change will cause species such as the polar bear and the tropical frogs to become extinct. Scores of other species will migrate to other areas to avoid the heat.

Extreme weather events are on the rise, and they are already causing serious economic problems. These events are influenced by climate change.

Solutions to the Global Warming Problem

Humans need to stand united and implement the best solutions to stop, or at least slow down, global warming. Reducing our use of fossil fuels, electricity, water, and other resources all over the world will have a serious positive effect.

We need to learn how to recycle efficiently. By reducing the amount of plastic we produce, we can slow down global warming.

The number of motor vehicles using gasoline and diesel must go down. Instead, we can use green sources of energy for our vehicles (solar panels, for example).

In conclusion, we need to understand that our behavior and activities are damaging our planet. The rise in average temperatures is causing a host of unwanted effects, some of which have potentially deadly consequences. We need to take action now and reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that are released into the atmosphere daily. Also, we need to start recycling and using clean sources of energy (solar, wind, geothermal, etc.). This is the only way we can save Earth and make it a cleaner place to live in.
